RockRider ST 900 Mountain Bike

Is The RockRider ST 900 Mountain Bike As Responsive As Promised?

RockRider MOUNTAIN BIKE ST 900 - GREY/ORANGEThe RockRider ST 900 Mountain Bike is a smart-looking mountain bike with clean lines, thick tyres, and a sense of style.

There is also the promise of great performance for users of any level of proficiency.

This all sounds great, especially when you get into the finer points of the specification, such as the controls and the response of the bike. But, can this bike provide the ride that buyers expect?

The Pros and Cons of this Decathlon RockRider ST 900 Mountain Bike.

Pros:

  •  A lighter frame and lighter wheels than other products in the line.
  •  The front wheel is also quick release with a decent tyre.
  •  The brakes and gear are great for the bike’s purpose.
  •  These features are enhanced by the quick controls on the handlebars.
  •  There are lights and reflectors added for free.

Cons:

  •  Be aware that this is semi-rigid and not full suspension.
  •  There are some faulty items with questionable parts.
  •  Some free elements could be better.

The RockRider ST 900 Mountain Bike has the potential to get people racing through the trails with greater ease.

One of the main aims when designing this bike was to make it lighter than previous models. This is achieved via the 500g lighter aluminium frame.

Furthermore, the 27.5’’ wheels also have a lighter construction to lower the weight further. These wheels are a big selling point because of this and the great texture on the Rockrider All Conditions tyres.

There is also the chance to remove the front wheel to make the bike easier to transport.

The bike is designed to handle the terrain at speed while also keeping riders fully in control at all times. The gears and brakes are a big part of this, but then there are the added features of the smooth controls on the handlebars.

This means changing gears and applying brakes just as they are needed. The brakes are Tektro hydraulic brakes for both wheels and there are 11 speeds on the Microshift M665 rear derailleur.

Finally, there are the extra details that the company has added to this mountain bicycle to make it more effective and fun to ride. There are pedals, reflectors, lights, and a bell supplied as extras – although the former should be as standard at this price.

The others should give you a little more confidence when riding at speed or at different times of the day. If you choose to, you can also make use of the mounting points on the frame for mudguards and a water bottle holder.

There is room for improvement with this RockRider ST 900 and not all experiences are equal.

One thing that you will notice here is that there is no mention of the suspension yet. There is nothing wrong with the system provided and it fits the model well.

The ability to control the lockout from the handlebar is a nice touch. However, this is a semi-rigid mountain bike with no rear suspension.

It is important to keep this in mind if you were expecting something with a little more cushioning behind it. A full-suspension version is available if you would prefer to seek that out instead.

Otherwise, most users seem to be happy enough with what they get here. Some receive faulty items, such as those with bent wheels, and one reviewer says that the forks weren’t as advertised.

Others say that they will have to put in some work to make the upgrades they want – such as new pedals and other accessories.

Should you still get this RockRider Lightweight Mountain Bike with all this in mind?

The contrast in comments about the quality of the bike on arrival is alarming. But, there are far more positive reviews than there are negative ones.

You can still enjoy a responsive ride in various conditions with the combination of the braking, speeds, lighter frame, and those great controls on the handlebars.

From there, you can adapt the MTB to suit your needs and tune it up where necessary. The RockRider mountain bike could still be a great choice – just make sure you get the version with the right suspension system for your needs.
